FaulknerBrowns’ Vancouver studio expands the practice’s international reach across North America and beyond.

The connection to the Pacific North West goes back to the time Harry Faulkner-Brown spent there during his formative years, prior to establishing the UK studio in 1962.

Taking FaulknerBrowns internationally

In 2019, FaulknerBrowns established its first international studio in Vancouver, a city shaped by its close relationship with the surrounding mountains and natural wilderness.

This marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter, creating a permanent base to share our approach to design in a new environment. The studio works across sport, civic, commercial and masterplanning projects, combining local understanding with FaulknerBrowns’ international experience. This balance helps us respond to the character of each place while applying lessons learned from complex projects for communities worldwide.

“Our studio brings together architects from around the world who have chosen to make this city their home. The range of skills, experiences and perspectives supports an open, collaborative and energetic environment and I am proud to bring my experience of living and studying in the Netherlands to projects across British Columbia.”

Our work includes the renewal of Mundy Park Pool, the creation of Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre and the refresh of Bob Prittie Library. We are also looking ahead to housing projects that will shape places to live with distinct and lasting identities.

Each project is guided by a close reading of its setting – its character, history and the rhythms of everyday life.

Our Vancouver studio is working on a diverse range of projects that respond to local needs and long-term ambitions. In Victoria, we are developing a framework to guide the Anglican Cathedral’s future over multiple generations, shaped through close collaboration with the community. At the same time, our experience in aquatics is informing plans for the major refurbishment of the 50-metre aquatic centre in Prince George.

The breadth of experience the team brings to British Columbia enables us to contribute to design excellence across the region.
