Mundy Park Pool recognised for community focused design

Mundy Park Pool in Coquitlam, British Columbia, has received two provincial awards for its contribution to public recreation and inclusive civic design.

The project was awarded the BC Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA) Facility Excellence Award for projects over $6 million, which recognises facilities that respond to community needs through design quality, accessibility, innovation and environmental responsibility. It also received the 2026 Bill Woycik Outstanding Facility Award from the Recreation Facilities Association of British Columbia (RFABC), which honours recreation projects that demonstrate innovation, operational efficiency and long-term community benefit.

The redevelopment replaces the former Spani Pool with a contemporary outdoor aquatic facility that significantly expands capacity and supports broader community use. The design retains and upgrades the existing lap and dive pools while introducing new leisure water, universal change rooms and flexible community spaces, all carefully set within the park’s forested landscape. Accessibility and sustainability are embedded throughout, and the architecture works with its surroundings to create a welcoming, intuitive experience for all visitors.

Together, these awards recognise Mundy Park Pool as a thoughtfully designed civic destination that demonstrates how careful, inclusive design can deliver lasting value for both community and place.
