Trio shortlisted for World Architecture Festival
For the fourth consecutive year, we have been shortlisted to compete against the best in global architecture at the World Architecture Festival (WAF), to be held in Amsterdam in December. This year, we have three schemes in the running to be named ‘World Future Project of the Year’, competing in three separate categories.
Firstly, our masterplan proposals for The Goodsyard in Hackney, London for Hammerson and Ballymore JV have been shortlisted in the 'Future Commercial Mixed-use Project' category. Our plans for regenerating the ten acre Bishopsgate Goodsyard site will create a vibrant new mixed-use urban quarter in the heart of Shoreditch, focusing on flexible workspace and the creative industries. The plans include six acres of public realm and retain as much of the site’s fascinating heritage as possible.
Secondly, our proposals for Britannia Leisure Centre for Hackney Council have been shortlisted in the 'Future Leisure Led Development' category. In this scheme, we have adopted a considered approach to the vertical layering of sports and leisure facilities to create space for a new public square on the site. This animated civic space acts as a welcoming new gateway into Shoreditch Park, encouraging the local community to engage in activity.
Finally, our proposals for a New City Hall for Sunderland City Council have been shortlisted in the 'Future Civic Project' category. The scheme represents phase two of the Vaux Brewery masterplan to regenerate a prominent site in the heart of Sunderland. The flexible workspace has a strong emphasis on natural daylight and wellbeing throughout. Visual connections and interaction between occupants and visitors is promoted through the openness and transparency of the building interior.
At last year's WAF, our sole entry, Sportcampus Zuiderpark, narrowly missed out on the title of 'World’s Best Completed Sports Building', receiving the category’s Highly Commended accolade.
