IAKS International Swimming Pool Conference
Participants from eleven countries descended on the North East of England to attend the International IAKS (International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities) Swimming Pool Conference, with international trends in the design and operation of swimming pools an important theme of the agenda.
The conference was preceded by a guided tour of our RIBA National Award winning Hebburn Central by Steve Dickson and Michael Hall, serving as a best practice example of an integrated community facility which combines a swimming pool with a library, other leisure facilities and community focused support services.
During the conference itself, Michael Hall addressed the delegates on best practice examples of swimming pool design from the UK and Irina Korneychuk spoke alongside Jo Talbert from the Royal Life Saving Society on the topic of natural lighting in swimming pool design and the implications for swimmer safety and wellbeing.
