Britannia Leisure Centre wins overall at the New London Awards
New London Architecture (NLA) has named Britannia Leisure Centre as the overall winner at the 2022 New London Awards. Britannia also won in the culture category of the awards, which celebrate the best new projects in London, recognising built and future projects of all scales that make a positive contribution to the city.
Britannia Leisure Centre, designed for Hackney Council, aims to improve both health and wellbeing in the local community by providing accessible and inviting leisure facilities.
The building was designed in close consultation with sports teams, schools and community groups in Hackney, and we were proud to see the project also commended in the Mayor of London's prize for inclusive design.
The leisure centre is part of a wider masterplan designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, which includes new homes and a new secondary school alongside Shoreditch Park.
Peter Murray OBE, Co-founder of NLA and Chair of the judging panel said
'Britannia Leisure Centre is not just an excellent amenity for the local community, it is a fine piece of city-making and a public building of great presence - a first class piece of civic architecture.'
