Kingston Leisure and Community Building wins planning approval

Our plans for a new community leisure facility in London have been approved by Kingston Council’s planning committee. The project will create a new destination in the town centre by providing new leisure facilities, play areas and a public café.

The new centre will include a 25m swimming pool suitable for competitions, a 20m teaching pool and toddler pool alongside a sports hall, gym, flexible studios and a clip and climb area. The building will also provide flexible community spaces, rooftop football pitches and summer terraces for exercise classes.

The project sits alongside the Grade II listed Kingston Library and Museum and includes an extension to the existing buildings, to create a new entrance foyer. The approved plans also include improvements to the surrounding landscape, play areas and public realm. A café within the new centre will animate the area between the two buildings and provide amenities for people visiting the adjacent Fairfield Park.

'We are delighted to see the project reach this milestone. As well as encouraging people to get more involved with sport and wellbeing, the new centre will create a cultural destination in Kingston alongside the museum and library. With around a million visitors expected each year, it's a real opportunity to revitalise the town centre.'
