Following last year’s success for Kings Hall Leisure Centre in the AJ Retrofit & Reuse Awards, Crystal Palace National Sports Centre has been named a 2026 finalist for ‘Future Reuse’.
As part of the Morgan Sindall team appointed by the Greater London Authority to deliver a major refurbishment to this iconic Grade II* listed venue, the scope of this monumental project illustrates our approach to retrofit and reuse as a practice: extending the life of existing assets, reducing embodied carbon and reimagining civic buildings for contemporary needs, shaped around people and their communities.
The design revisits the original concept of a ‘pavilion in the park’, strengthening connections between the building, its landscape and public life. Step-free routes, reconfigured changing areas and a simplified entrance will improve accessibility and comfort, supported by measures to boost energy performance.
