City Hall wins an RIBA Regional Award

City Hall has been recognised as one of the North East's best new buildings by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

The RIBA Awards celebrate outstanding architecture and its prizes are regarded internationally as a mark of excellence. This year, the awards took each project's operational energy performance into consideration, as well as innovations in architecture and commitment to social impact.

"The partnership between the city council client and the architects has delivered an inspiring new civic landmark and a forward-thinking workplace. Located on Sunderland’s former Vaux Brewery site, it is a bold and positive step as part of a wider vision for the city’s and region’s regeneration. Awareness of its physical and cultural context, and commitment to inclusivity and sustainability, all informed its design."

As a regional winner, City Hall will now be considered for a prestigious RIBA National Award. Read more from the RIBA Journal here.
