Work displayed at the RA Summer Exhibition
Two of our architectural models, created by in-house model maker Andrew Parkin are to be exhibited at the Royal Academy’s Summer Exhibition, one of the most significant annual events in the art calendar.
Held each year since 1769, the Summer Exhibition is the world’s oldest open submission exhibition, displaying works in a variety of mediums and genres by emerging and established artists.
This year’s 250th anniversary edition has been curated by Grayson Perry, with architect Piers Gough taking responsibility for the exhibition’s Architecture Room.
Two of Andrew’s recent works, ‘Germination’ and ‘Vaux’ are to be displayed to around 200,000 visitors over a ten week period.
Describing the two models, Andrew said: "Vaux is a rigorous piece of architecture, with wonderful façade detail and structural depth that follows behind. Materiality is key to the model portraying the feel of the façade and the bay section. It’s a mix of traditional workshop model making and twenty first century CAD/CAM. A real test piece.
"Germination is a case of less is more. The landscape was formulated by the design team to a precise grid with a fantastic 3D printed building set within it. The clean crisp cut Depron sheet contours create a landscape from which the laser sintered nylon objects grow. The model is everything it needs to be and no more."
The Summer Exhibition is held at the Royal Academy in London and is open to the public from 12th June to 19th August 2018.
