Sandcastle Challenge 2017

Sandcastle Challenge 2017 Holystone Primary School Winning Design Distort Lh

We are very pleased to have helped Holystone Primary School to victory in the Children North East Sandcastle Challenge 2017.

The event, now in its 24th year, gives primary schools from across the North East of England one hour to build the best sand sculpture possible, with a £200 prize on offer to the winners. Each year the teams are given a different theme; this year’s theme was North East inventors.

As well as providing a fantastic experience for the participants, the event aims to raise awareness of the charity's work and raise funds to allow them to continue transforming the lives of disadvantaged children.

This year we partnered with Holystone Primary School. Prior to the event we visited the school to meet the team and to help develop design concepts for their entry. Having returned to our studio with many great design ideas, our architects selected the most promising concepts and created a final blueprint for the team to create on the day.

On the day of the build we joined Holystone’s enthusiastic team of sand sculptors, to oversee construction and lend a helping hand where needed. After an hour of hard work and expert craftsmanship the team’s entry was complete and ready for scrutiny by a team of judges, which included the charity’s patron actor Tim Healy.

To the team’s delight, Holystone were named as one of five winning schools, each receiving a £200 prize. Just as importantly everyone involved had a fantastic day and the children gained some valuable experience in design and construction.
