RIBA Journal praises The Word
The April edition of the RIBA Journal features an in depth article praising the architectural ambition of The Word in South Shields, written by architecture critic Hugh Pearman.
Published for the Royal Institute of British Architects since 1893, the RIBA Journal is the largest-circulation architecture magazine in the UK. The publication is committed to bringing its readers informed, entertaining and characterful guides to architecture.
Mr. Pearman begins his piece, "Pivotal to South Shields’ revival is FaulknerBrowns’ new library The Word, which through ambition and rigorous geometry speaks strongly of civic pride."
He later concludes, "The end result - very popular with the public - deserves applause. Civic pride expressed through architecture is alive and well on Tyneside - that is what's nationally important."
