Recent schemes bag renowned design awards
Three of our recently completed buildings, Beacon of Light, Janet Nash House and Menai Science Park, have been collectively recognised for their design excellence by regional juries for the Royal Insitute of British Architects (RIBA), Royal Society of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the British Council of Offices (BCO).
All three schemes received regional awards from the RIBA, with Janet Nash House being named ‘Building of the Year’ in the North East region. The RIBA Awards are widely recognised as the UK’s most sought after architectural prize, and this is the first time we have had three projects honoured in the same year.
In addition, Beacon of light picked up the title, ‘Project of the Year’ from the RICS North East judges, as well as the institutes’ ‘Community Benefit’ award. The BCO Northern Awards judges then presented Janet Nash House with the ‘Innovation’ award, before naming it the ‘Best Corporate Workplace’ in the region.
The first of its kind in the UK, Beacon of Light is a unique centre for the Foundation of Light, consisting of engaging and interactive zones in education; health and fitness; sport and play; and the world of work. The building stacks a lightweight rooftop football barn on top of shared community, sport and education facilities, maximising external space for revenue generating 5-a-side pitches, and creating height to emphasise the building as a regional beacon.
Janet Nash House is the new European IT headquarters for global electrical business City Electrical Factors (CEF). The building combines a variety of working environments tailored to CEF’s departmental requirements, creating a rich office landscape of workplace settings. This has allowed the firm to consolidate its IT departments into one location, improving both individual and team performance, by facilitating knowledge sharing and collaboration across the organization.
Menai Science Park is the first dedicated Science Park in North Wales. It has been developed to accommodate businesses working within the fields of sustainability, ICT and low carbon Energy, providing a catalyst for economic regeneration in the region. M-SParc is the first phase of development, offering flexible office and research laboratory facilities to bring together like-minded businesses within an inspiring and collaborative environment.
