Newcastle Civic Centre wins an RIBA Regional Award
Our refurbishment of Newcastle Civic Centre has won an RIBA Regional Award.
The project preserves and enhances one of the city’s most important heritage assets, George Kenyon’s Grade II listed Civic Centre built in 1968. Our design created a new public entrance for the centre, by sensitively enclosing the ground floor colonnade, alongside refurbishment of the council's offices. The project also improved the building's environmental performance, reducing the Civic Centre's energy consumption by 30%.
The RIBA Awards celebrate outstanding architecture both regionally and nationally. The project will now be considered for a prestigious RIBA National Award, with winners announced in June.
'The judges felt the RIBA North East Award projects were exemplary in demonstrating sincerity and delight with the very best of design. Each project has its occupants, context and sustainability at its heart.'
