Newcastle Civic Centre wins a Mixology award

Newcastle Civic Centre Faulknerbrowns Architects Mixology North Award Project Of The Year Public Sector Lh

Our refurbishment of Newcastle Civic Centre has won Public Sector Project of the Year at the Mixology North21 awards. Organised by Mix Interiors, the awards celebrate the best in commercial interiors every year and this year included several retrofit projects.

The civic centre by George Kenyon was built in 1968 and is one of the city’s most important heritage assets. The refurbishment has extended its use as a civic facility but also improved its environmental performance significantly.

The project includes a new entrance to the centre at the the ground floor colonnade, a previously underused space. Our design sought to celebrate listed features including the brick arches and the rising metal screens designed by Charles Sansbury. The new entrance now provides a main reception with informal seating, a public café and new meeting pods, making the council's services more accessible to the public.

Congratulations to the project team and all the winners.
