Model on display at the RA Summer Exhibition

Faulknerbrowns Model Royal Academy Summer Exhibition Bridging Heritage 2021

One of our architectural models, ‘Bridging Heritage’, is currently on display at the 2021 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.

The summer show is the world’s oldest open submission exhibition, having been held every year since 1769. Curators bring together artwork in every medium from both emerging and highly regarded artists.

Our model was crafted by architect Adam Smith and Andrew Parkin, FaulknerBrowns’ in-house model maker. It is on show in the architecture room, which this year was curated by David Adjaye.

‘Bridging Heritage’ takes inspiration from a world heritage site context, and shows a simple, efficient spanning truss. The bridge is enveloped to avoid interior light spilling out, thus protecting a dark river corridor and its ecology. It is also designed to passively float in times of flood, using a hydrodynamic curved hull to reduce drag and encourage uplift.

This is the 4th year in a row that one of our models has been selected for the exhibition and we are so pleased to see the project displayed alongside the biggest names in contemporary art and architecture.
