Four RICS Awards shortlistings

The Word South Shields Library Reading Non Fiction Area Lh

Two of our recently completed buildings have been shortlisted across four categories in this year’s Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) North East Awards. The awards showcase the most inspirational regional initiatives and developments in land, property, construction and the environment.

The Word in South Shields has been shortlisted in the Community Benefit, Design Through Innovation and Tourism & Leisure categories. The Word is a library for the 21st century, celebrating the dynamic relationship between people, books, traditional media and interactive technologies, in a truly inspiring environment. It is a place for people; the human-centric design placing the individual at the heart of the opportunity to interact, learn and delight.

Freeman’s Reach has been shortlisted in the Regeneration category. The £30 million office-led mixed-use development is in the heart of Durham city centre, creating a key gateway to the Durham Cathedral UNESCO World Heritage Site and a new arrival point for visitors to the city. The development regenerates a key site on the riverside and is now home to National Savings & Investments and Her Majesty’s Passport Office.

The category winners and Project of the Year winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on the 21st April at The Civic Centre, Newcastle. These will then go on to compete against other regional winners for a national RICS award.
